The 2010 Mazda Tribute is the smallest crossover SUV in the zoom-zoom family, but it’s big on utility. Under the Tribute’s hood is a 171-horsepower, 2.5-liter inline-four or an all-aluminum 240-horsepower, 3.0-liter V-6, both of which have variable cam technology and earn the Ultra Low Emissions Vehicle award. A hybrid version is also available. Drivetrain options include two- and all-wheel drive, and a five-speed manual or a six-speed automatic transmission. The Tribute earned 18-22 mpg city and 23-28 mpg highway ratings from the EPA.
For added environmental friendliness, both engines are now Flex Fuel capable. Horsepower and fuel economy are competitive with the Honda CR-V and Toyota RAV4; of particular importance, the Honda CR-V does not offer a V-6, meaning the Tribute is a much higher-powered vehicle when properly equipped. Functionality is high with over 1,100 pounds of payload capacity and up to a 3,500-pound tow rating.
